I"ll be staying in Dublin for a week and wanted to take a day trip to either Kinsale or Cobh. I will not have a car, so would need to take train/bus. Is it possible to do both Kinsale & Cobh in one day? Or should I just pick one to visit? I'm not sure how far they are from each other by bus.

Based on Transport summaries in Rick's Ireland book, I'd say that you take a bus from Kinsale to Cork (50 minutes, not many on Sundays, see www.buseireann.ie), walk to Cork's Kent train station (10 minutes), and take a train to Cobh (25 minutes, 2x/hour, www.irishrail.ie). You can check the same schedule links to see whether an all-bus route looks any better (or exists).
Laura you didn't address getting from Dublin to Kinsale which isn't a short journey. Train travel is over 4 hours, bus is 6 hours. I don't see how it can be accomplished without a car. I love Ireland but public transport is slow and thus my preference for a rental car.
