Day in Belfast

Greetings! We will be in Belfast for two days in early September. Wondering if we should purchase Titanic Museum Belfast in advance. Has anyone been there recently to know what the demand is? Also - if you have visited recently - are there any 'must do/see' things to but on our list? We plan on doing a black taxi tour, perhaps the Hop-On Hop-Off bus to see the city.... Any great walking tours we should check out? Thank you!

We were in Belfast in 2015 and pre purchased our titanic tickets. I always prepurchase sights I want to see so I am not disappointed. I missed the Corrie Ten Boon museum in Haarlem by not prepurchasing, a mistake I will not repeat. This was years before Covid. I believe almost every major sight now requires reservations. We also did the HOHO bus as it took us through the area with The Troubles and was very interesting. We had a live guide so questions could be asked. But one of our main reasons for taking it was the last stop was the titanic museum. We took the lazy way out to get there but were happily surprised with the HOHO bus tour. In some cities they are just awful.

St George’s Market, seafood chowder at Mournes, Crumlin Road Gaol, Milltown Cemetary ( where Bobby Sands is buried), Botanical Gardens, and the statuary in C.S. Lewis Square.

See if you can secure a walking or taxi tour of the wall murals representing BOTH sides of The Troubles!

We were there two weeks ago. There wasn't a need to pre-purchase the Titanic Museum Belfast in advance. We did the Black Taxi tour of Belfast in the morning, and had them drop us off at the Titanic Museum. It worked very well.

There 3 weeks ago and no need to purchase ticket in advance for Titanic Museum. Bought on our phones outside the museum. We also did the hop on/hop off, but the highlight was the Crumlin Road Goal tour. We did a self-guided tour of the prison which was neat, but the best part was someone in our group had arranged (I think through the Crumlin Road website), a 2 hour private walk along Shankill Road and Falls Road areas. On Shankill Road portion, it was with an Ulster-affiliated person (Sorry, not sure the best term), who had spend close to 7 years in Crumlin Road for shooting at some folks during the Troubles. He then handed us off to a person who had been in the IRA in the 60's and is part of the Sinn Fein party still. It was fascinating and so interesting both seeing all the memorials and murals and listing to their stories and perspectives on the Troubles. Definitely it was in the top two of our month in Europe.

We also took a day trip and drove out to the Giant's Causeway, which was a little more than an our north. We hiked around (I use that term loosely, lol) for a couple of hours and was beautiful. We drove out in the AM, and then back to the airport for our flight to Liverpool at 5:30. Had plenty of time to experience the Causeway without feeling rushed and made it to the airport at 3:30.

I highly recommend this company for the Taxi Tour: http://belfastblackcabtours.co.uk

We had initially booked through another company that left us high and dry, and Paddy Campbell tours came to the rescue (with the help of our hotel desk clerk). The tour was fantastic, too.

If you are able, do the titanic dry dock tour..,you will get to see where the ship was constructed and a lot of history surrounding the ship building. There also used to be.,,hope it still is A Ghost Walk in Belfast...absolutely amazing! The city hall and the Crumlin Gaol tour are also excellent. Ireland rocks my world!

We are taking the Best of Scotland tour in June 2023.

Before or after the tour I want to spend time in Dublin and my husband is interested in Belfast.

After reading everyone's posts Belfast sounds very interesting and now I am excited about going to Belfast.

I know this is a very open question, but would three - four full days allow us enough time to enjoy the many sights mentioned in the posts?

Thanks for your suggestions.

We had 2 1/2 days in Belfast, and on one of those days we did a full-day tour to the Antrim Coastline (Dunluce Castle, Giant's Causeway, et al). I thought it was enough time, although we did not go to the Titanic Museum, as it didn't interest us. So, yes, I think 3-4 full days would give you enough time.

We just got home from Belfast this past Sunday. We loved Belfast - much more than Dublin, actually. We did the black taxi tour and thought it was excellent. At the time we booked that, we added the Titanic Experience and went there later in the day. We really enjoyed City Hall - large, beautiful building with 16 rooms as a "tour" of Belfast's history. Across the street is the Linen Hall Library. If you enjoy libraries, stop in. They have a "troubles" poster display and a beautiful tea room. Special place! We also rented a car out of Belfast City Airport to get to the Carrick a Rede rope bridge and Giant's Causeway.

Wonderful!

We wanted to do the tour of City Hall, but it wasn't open on the day we had free.
