Cruise stop Dublin, August 7:30-5:30

Looking for suggestions on things we should not miss on our one day visit. We don’t want to participate in the ships excursions. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Our favorite is definitely Kilmainhaim Gaol but you do need to get tickets way ahead of time. Have been there three times we think it is that good. However we had several weeks each time to visit Dublin.

Install the Rick Steves Europe app and download his two walking tours of Dublin, which can be done back to back. Get yourself into the center of Dublin and take one or both. You may want to spend more time at some of the places he takes you. Kilmainham Gaol is certainly worth seeing, but it will require a ride and take some time that you may not have.

I haven't been to Dublin by ship, but I'm sure the pier will be some distance east of the city. Unless the cruise line provides a shuttle, you'll need a taxi or some knowledge of the transit system to get there and back. A guidebook from your public library should be helpful, photocopy the most relevant pages.

EPIC: The Irish Emmigration Museum is fantastic and worth a visit if you are going to be in Dublin for the day. I second KIlmainham Gaol but it is a bit of hike to get to in my opinion. Another good visit is the GPO, nice museum and we learned a lot about the Easter Rising.
