My family is returning to Ireland for 16 days this summer. We've been over many many times (my husband is from Dublin) but haven't been since 2019 because of Covid. We visit friends and family in various parts of the country, and we've always rented a car for the whole trip, including a week in Dublin, as we're not usually doing tourisity things in the city center, but going to friends' houses around the city. This year though, car rental prices seem double what they used to be, so I'm considering ditching the car for the Dublin part of the trip.
What are taxi and Uber prices like, if we were to take 2-4 rides a day? We do use the buses too, but would likely take a number of rides to go directly to people's homes. We were also planning a day trip to Glendalough, so would miss having a car for that, but maybe I'd pick up a 1-day rental for that, or see if we could borrow someone's car for the day.
Our whole itinerary is: fly into Shannon June 23, drive to Clifden for several days; then down to West Cork for a few days, then to Dublin July 2 - 9. Dropping the car on the 3rd in Dublin saves about $700, but would we end up spending $500 on taxis and lose the convenience of the car? Worth it?
