I am going to be spending a week in & around Adare, going as far north as Aran Islands, south to Kinsale, Dingle & east to Rock of Cashel. Nowhere in the RS Ireland guide book is Adare, Limerick or Cork mentioned. Are those areas of interest? Should I allot time for those towns?
NO!!!! There are too many other things to do and see that are far more worthwhile.
Thank you, Brian. That's kind of what I thought since Rick never mentioned those towns but I just needed more confirmation.
I had a great day in adare.....but cork is a bit of an armpit.
I also enjoyed Adare. I would suggest NOT limiting your touring to things in the RS guide, particularly since you're going to be staying in a single area. While his books are great for logistics, lots of wonderful places get left out. I found this to be particularly true of the Ireland book. The Eyewitness Guides are good for general planning, and the Blue Guides are amazing for art, architecture, and history.
We rented bikes from a company in Limerick, and they delivered them to us in Salthill, but we rode thru Ireland and turned them back in to the store in Limerick, then caught the next bus out of town. Limerick looked kind of gritty (Ireland's answer to Naples?), but there was a nice bakery run by a Polish woman who made great sandwiches.
My friends and I went to cork in June and we had a blast! We are all in our mid 20's the night life there was very much alive! The pubs were very authentic! We also took day trips from here to Cobh and the Blarney Castle. I most definately would go back for another visit.
