Looking for a great place to stay in Cork for one night
I haven't stayed there (I was across the street in an apartment I really can't recommend), but the location of the Residence Inn is excellent. It's on the north bank of the river, so you have to cross over to get to the central area where the English Market is, but it's a short walk to the train station. Around the corner in Sin É, a pub known for traditional music. Also around the corner is the bus to Blarney if you're into that. There are several hotels in this area, any one of which is probably fine.
We stayed 3 nights at Gabriel House, which is just above the train station. Nicely restored mansion that comes complete with dogs on the patio to pet. Very nice and it was the least expensive place I could find. About a 10 minute walk to Sin é and another 10 to English Market. One I considered closer in was Acorn House is which just a block or so from Sin é and a similar price - I didn't trust the availability of parking.
We had avoided Cork for four prior trips, thinking it was just a mini-Dublin, but we really liked our stay and Sin é's music was great, though crowded. Get there by 6pm and don't sit in the rear corner booth, since you'll get bumped.
I've just returned from a weekend break at Hayfield Manor. It's a wonderful 5* hotel and the staff are exceptional.
In 2019, I stayed at The Metropole Hotel, which is a short walk from the train station. Our lovely Victorian room faced the main road, but it was quiet. The breakfast had plenty of options and lots of seating. We heard some great trad just down the street at the Corner House. Too bad you're only in Cork for one night. I really enjoyed my time there.
A reasonable, good value, city center hotel, is Premier Inn.
While it may lack in charm, from my experience, it is good value.
