Cork

My daughter is studying abroad for the Spring 2019 semester in Cork. I get to be the lucky mom who visits her in mid-March!

I’m looking for any hotel/B&B recommendations for Cork.

If anyone has any good tips or ideas on getting from Dublin airport to Cork would love to hear them. I know I’m not interested in renting a car. I've briefly researched getting from Dublin airport to Cork and I'm leaning towards taking the bus vs. the train.

Thank you !

I haven't been there myself, but am currently researching trains for my own visit to Ireland next year. The train looks pretty decent - a bit less than 3 hours, no changes. Personally, I'd be tempted to take the train rather than a bus.

I agree the train looks nice. The reason I'm leaning towards the bus, is it leaves direct from the airport. To take the train I'd have to travel from the airport to train station in Dublin. Which then makes both journeys about the same travel time. The bus is also significantly cheaper...

I'm thinking I will travel direct to Cork upon arrival, however to return to Dublin for flight home, I might take the train and stay overnight in Dublin.

In Ireland for the past week, but north of Cork. However, we landed in Dublin last Sunday, and with our bags, checked at the airport bus desk, and a CityLink Express Bus was leaving in 10 minutes. It stopped once, in downtown Dublin, to pick up additional passengers, so we got a mini tour of Dublin as part of the deal, but then headed straight west. We were actually going to Galway, not Cork, but the bus worked better for us than the train. As you already stated, it left from the airport, and we didn’t have to do any transfers or involve any other delays. Not positive if direct buses go to Cork, but we decided bus over train.

I can’t help with the public transportation since we have always rented a car, but I can recommend Fernroyd House B&B, which is right next to the University and a walk of about 15 minutes into Cork City. Tony and Avril were great hosts and go over and beyond when necessary to help their guests.

We enjoyed the River Lee hotel, one of the rare actual hotels we used in Ireland, doing B&Bs most of the rest of the trip.
