COM/Aran Islands Should we drive to Doolin or Ferry from Galway

Hello.
Flying into Dublin and driving to Galway.
3 of our nights will be in Galway before we head to Westport for a few nights.
One day for sure is dedicated to seeing COM by ferry and Aran Islands. Might want to see them on ground too. We have a car. I see that we can take a ferry from Galway City and also from Doolin. I am wondering if it is suggested to do the drive to Doolin and adventure from there so that we are getting a chance to see more of the countryside?? Or will that be too difficult to then get back to Galway for the night to sleep? After our 3 nights in Galway, we will be in Louisburgh and Westport and then making our way back to Dublin. First trip and we will not be visiting SW Ireland due to other plans on the agenda. TY.

The ferry from Galway is a shorter voyage, a larger ship, and more reliable in weather or high seas. IMO it's a no brainer to go from Galway. The opposite question (should I go from Doolin or drive to Galway) is a closer call. If the Cliffs of Moher or the Burren are on your essential bucket list, then that changes the equation. Beautiful countryside is everywhere.

In August 2023 we stayed at the Harbour Hotel in Galway. Our group of 9 very much enjoyed this hotel - and (bonus) it was located literally cross the parking lot from the ferry entrance. Couldn't have been easier. Ferry boat from Galway is large and stable and the view of the Cliffs of Moher from the boat is stunning. Hope that helps with this part of your trip.
