Clothing for Sept. trip, is it ever hot then?

Is it likely to be warm enough to use any capri pants and short sleeve tee-shirts between Sept. 2 and 18, Dublin and points south and west?

Probably not, but the answer to your question will only be known for sure on Sept. 19. The best thing to do is dress in layers so you can go hot or cold. Check out the average climate data in Rick's tour book but they are only averages so you need to protect for a few degrees higher and lower than indicated. According to the weather channel today's high in Edinburgh will be 64 but two years ago it was about 80 in September.

Irv's response is great -- we'll only know for sure on Sept 19!!

I've definitely worn capris and short-sleeved t-shirts at that time -- but that's no guarantee that that would be the case. The key is probably to have one short-sleeved t-shirt in case it's necessary -- and then the long sleeved t-shirts, cardigans, and/or light jackets that will be necessary if it's not short-sleeve weather!

With family living in Western Ireland, I can tell you there have been multiple visits throughout the years at the height of summer (June, July, August) where I have ended up wearing jeans, long sleeve tees with a fleece jacket or a hoodie over it, and then when walking along the coast had to top all that off with a light jacket to ward off the chill. And I live in New England, so it's not exactly like I am unused to chilly weather. I have packed a pair of capris and 1 or 2 short sleeve shirts for those days when it does get warm enough for them, but I certainly don't make capris and short sleeve tees the core of my wardrobe for any trip to Ireland. It's not Maui...

Hi from Wisconsin,
Hot in Ireland is 74 degrees F. I was once there when it was sunny and 74. they shut factories down. Too hot to work. Such good common sense. People went out and sun bathed. You could walk body to body without touching the ground across most parks. 7 days later a great scourge hit Ireand as those white Irish a began to peel.

But I digress. Seriously, it is seldom hot in Ireland. I wear a Irish tweed sport coat and make sure I have a hat and bumbershoot. I look like an elf. I've been there in June, July, August, and February, March, and April and my wool sport coat has always been fine. Good walking shoes or chukas that have some water repellancy are a good plan. I think September will be wonderful. The rainy season only runs October to May, some times into June, and maybe starts late September. But July, August, and early September are grand, unless it rains. How else you gona keep the grass that geen color?

I wear capris and short sleeves in 60+ temps. You may even get days in the low 70's if you're lucky. You never know about that, but you can be pretty sure you'll get some rain and cold. A fleece jacket and rain gear will come in real handy.
