Clonfert cathedral, Galway

I'm going to Galway and I'll stay there three nights at 2018 January 1st. I'm very interested in the history and ruins of early Christianity. I heard Clonfert cathedral is very unique and interesting. So I have a few questions to the residents of this town.
1. Can I visit this cathedral by the train and taxi? I checked the nearest station Ballinasloe on Google map, and I feel it's very difficult to take a taxi.
2. Can you tell me another worthwhile place to visit if you know? Especially easy to access... I'm planing to go Allan Islands.

I hope that someone gives me advices !

Allan Islands? Is that a typo and you meant Aran Islands?
I haven't been in January, but the Connemara region and The Burren and Cliffs of Moher are nearby and worth a visit.

www.discoverireland.ie includes this note: The Church is locked but a key is available locally from the house at the right hand side of the Cathedral.

Here are three cab listings near Ballinasloe. Mighty Cabs has a web site, therefore more ways to contact them for arrangements.

Thank you Laura and diveloonie.
I decide to visit this cathedral and Cliffs of Moher. I understand both are very easy to be there!

Also the Fishery Watchtower Museum is worth seeing, in Galway city. And it's FREE!

Thank you, Susan
That’s sound nice. I’ll be there because unfortunately I couldn’t get the reply from taxi company. So I looking for another place to visit.
Thanks again!
