Climate

Hello
We are leaving for Ireland in a couple of days. The 30 th to September 10 th I was disappointed when I looked at weather forecast for the coming week. I am a concerned as it is raining everyday. It is one of the rainiest weeks I have seen. I was expecting rain but not for a week straight. We will make the best of it. Is there any advice or a bit of light to shine from those of you who have been to Ireland. This is our first trip there. Any advice is appreciated, and thank you in advance. We will be based in Kenmare and hoped to experience local sights and explore the Ring of Kerry. Thanks Val

I’d recommend a waterproof rain jacket with a hood. If you plan a lot of outdoor activities add waterproof rain pants and waterproof shoes. The shoes will be tough at this late date so take a spare pair and if one gets wet remove the insoles so they dry faster overnight.

If you are prepared for rain you can keep going.

I also try to have a small purse that I can zip up under my rain jacket.

No direct experience with rain in Ireland as my only visit was in an unusually dry time frame. I have visited Orkney in Scotland where it rained every day and we just kept going.

Hope you trip is enjoyable!

It does indeed rain a lot in Ireland. However, something to keep in mind is that even if it’s only raining for part of the day, the forecast will show as rain. It’s very unlikely to be non stop rain for a week. The weather in Ireland is very changeable so just be prepared for anything. I’m sure you’ll have a great time even with some rain!

I'm afraid that it is the remnants of ex hurricane, now cyclone Erin.

As long as it hangs around it will be be bringing bands of storms and rain.

You can hope it moves up and out while you're here.

When I went to Ireland last year I learned the the hurricanes that hit the United States will travel straight to Ireland about a week later. So hopefully it will be passed by then.
