Cliffs of Moher vs Ring of Kerry

Prelim planning for three generation trip (77yo grandmother, 8 and 9 yo boys, DH and myself) to Ireland this October. Eight days, in/out DUB. Will rent a car for five ppl. Days 1 (arr 7am) & 2 overnights in Dublin. Days 3-7 to explore before overnight DUB airport for Day 8 9am departure .

We don't want to switch hotels every night yet want to be able to explore Southern Ireland and I'm debating between the Cliffs of Moher vs. the Ring of Kerry. Thoughts on one over the other? Since we'll be touring Ireland in mid-October, doubtful we'll experience crushing tourist crowds, right?

Thank you for weighing in on those two sites. I appreciate it!

For me I would do the Ring of Kerry, the Beara Peninsula (just south of the RofK, less busy, more rural and pretty cool), and the Dingle Peninsula. Consider hiring a one day private driving tour for your group, your family driver will enjoy the day off and the opportunity to see the sights and the private tour guys are awesome. Based on your schedule I would not go up to the Cliffs of Moher although that area and Doolin are pretty cool. If you do the RofK check with Paul Brown for a private tour, his van would be perfect for your whole clan! Crowds will be low (I did a late April early May trip no issues with crowds at all) but the days will be shorter! http://www.kenmaretaxitours.com/home.html

Having visited both, if I HAD to choose just one, I would go with the Ring of Kerry. It can be very, very windy in Ireland, and at the Cliffs of Moher especially. Our visit at the Cliffs was maybe 1.5 hours, and we had plenty of time to enjoy taking photos outside as well as enjoying the very nice vistior center. Likely you will find after time in the Ring of Kerry, on your way back up the coast to head to Dublin, you may be able to squeeze in the Cliffs, too, along with lunch at a pub in Doolin, then head up thru The Burren to Galway and on back to Dublin.

The Rock of Cashel is also very interesting, if it makes sense to do that on your way down from Dublin.

Have a wonderful trip!!

Thank you, jarrardd - I've emailed Paul Brown, what a great idea to have a private driver to relieve me and my husband from driving. I thorough appreciate your advice.

Maggie, great point re: wind at Cliffs of Moher. I'm nervous enough about heights, don't need to add that element! I appreciate your help in weighing in, we'll go to the Ring of Kerry.
