Has anyone ever walked the cliffs of Moher hiking trail? Or taken a guide on the trail (ie: Doolin Cliff Walks)? Let me know your pros/cons. Thanks!
I've walked a couple of miles of it - it is, of course, gorgeous. I gather it gets extremely crowded at times, but we were there late afternoon, when it was a lot less so. Not for acrophobes.
If you go when the crowds are less its beautiful. Better than the almost always clogged hyper touristy visitors center area. Didn't go with a guide. It was beautiful. FAR prefer other cliff sites in Ireland......Slieve League, Kilkee and especially the Cliffs of Kerry among others. Just pick a non tourist clogged time and don't have a fear of heights.
We did the whole 4 mile walk along the cliffs. Great hike! It starts off crowded, but that dies down the farther along you get. Its windy! You are not that close to the edge. It’s fine.
If you are talking about the trail south along the rim I've walked out to the tower and found it to be a great walk. It's been a few years but after climbing over the Danger signs there were very few people. Take your camera and enjoy.
We walked the Cliffs of Moher trail this morning! Stunningly beautiful. A do not miss experience if the weather is clear. Strongly advise taking the local bus to the Cliffs of Moher visitor center then walking back to your BnB in Doolin. The walk is then mostly down hill. If you start walking from Doolin it’s much more strenuous since you are going from sea level to the high cliffs.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts. I'm assuming from your posts that it is easy to do on one's own and no guide is needed. We are excited to add this to our itinerary!
No guide is needed.....it's easy to follow. Also very safe unless you do really dumb stuff. Remember the very edge can be unstable...but the trail isn't right on the edge. It's pretty and FAR better than the visitor center area with its busloads of tourists, strip mall and leprechaun-y gift shops.
If you do have time and the inclination about 30 miles south are the far more wild and beautiful Cliffs of Kilkee. Definitely worth the trip.
