Cliffs of Moher - North trail open? And do you need boots?

We are planning to hike part/all of the trail (we are experienced hearty hikers). I found a hikers group we site that claimed in 2019 part of the trail from the visitors center North is closed. But I can't find any other info if this is current and never got an answer from the web site contact person. Any info?

Since this will not be a major hiking vacation we were trying not to bring our (heavy) boots. We have lighter trailing running shoes that have almost boot-like treads but are lighter and we can use as walking shoes for the trip. Any reason these would not be sufficient? My wife will really be annoyed at me if I let her get blown off the cliff!

Thanks so much for all your usual wisdom.

I was just there about a week ago! My friend and I hiked from Doolin down to the visitor center and back. There is a small section of the trail blocked off but they route you around it. There is a sign when you're hiking north to south with directions. I'm not sure we saw one on the way back, but if you have a map you should be able to figure it out. They should also be able to tell you this at the visitors center.

Good trail running shoes will suffice. I didn't take heavy boots either because of space and I felt safe with my trail running shoes! It's a really beautiful area, have a wonderful trip!
