Cliffs of Moher for the fearful

Hello all,
So, taking the first family trip to Ireland and super excited about the interior of Ireland - the cliffs -for me- not so much. We are staying in Doolin with no car, but will travel to Cliffs of Moher to see from above and perhaps a boat ride to see as well. My question and I know this sounds stupid, but is it possible to stand far back ( like 300 ft.?) and still be worth a visit?
Thanks for any input.

They have safe, paved paths, but you could just spend your time in the visitor center. You might be able to get closer than you think you can. And, if you can't, that's okay. We all have different comfort levels.

I am fearful of heights and there were several spots with sturdy stone walls to stand behind. I think there is also an elevated area you could take photos that is not right at the edge, but it's been many years since I visited so I might not be remembering correctly. Regardless, I do recall I managed to feel completely safe and not at all vertigo-y. You can walk along the cliffs without railings but I skipped that option.

My husband has a fear of heights, but there was a huge wide pathway and very solid walls near the visitors center, so I don't even think he thought to be scared/anxious/fearful. Now, my walking across the Carrick a Rede bridge in Northern Ireland, he pretty much stood at the border of the Republic of Ireland while I did it.

As long as you stay on the path, you may feel better than you expect. As I remember, in some sections, the path is not very close to an edge and where it is closer, there are stone walls between you and the edge. You might feel reassured by watching some of the youtube videos that show people walking on the path -- as opposed to the ones where they leave the path and climb out onto the rocks, which you don't need to do.

I didn't do the cliffs walk, but really enjoyed the boat ride.

Hello, if you do the boat ride from Doolin pier, you get a real sense of the scale of the Cliffs while listening to the onboard commentary which shares interesting nuggets of history, facts and folklore. You also get incredible photos that you just won't get from the top. If you decide to also visit the Visitor Centre, rest assured, there is a wall so you are safe.

You see far more from the boat ride, than from standing at the top. A walk on the path gives you the grand perspective, but to actually see the cliffs and birds and nests, a boat from Doolin is the way to go.

I agree that the paved pathways above the cliffs are well back and behind walls. I felt plenty safe. Fear of heights is a rational instinct, of course. I didn't see them from the water but I'd expect that would be a better view. One thing to note, from the top, is that the cliffs are deeply indented in several places, so you can stand near one of the protrusions and look back to see the faces of the cliffs on either side or both. The visitor center is excellent, but it would be a shame to miss the actual cliffs. Once you're there, they don't take a lot of time.
