I was reading on BBC today that at least part if not all of the Cliffs of Moher walk will be closed through summer, but possibly the portion from the Visitor Center north to Doolin could reopen. More info on this site: https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2025/0207/1495264-cliffs-of-moher-trail/
That's too bad. Walking the trail was the best part of visiting the cliffs.
Disappointed reading this post. Question, is it worth even going to the Cliffs of Moher in f the trails aren’t open? We are traveling the end of March. Thank you
I'm going to be staying in Doolin, about a mile from where the trail begins, in May. It will be part of a writing and nature retreat. It's our understanding from the organizers that a part of the trail on the Doolin side will be open, and that there is still good opportunity for photographs of the cliffs. But we shall see!
There are a lot of cliffs in Ireland. And many of them have way less people. Standing on a cliff with several hundred other people is much different than standing in the wind alone. The top of a 200 foot cliff is just as rewarding as the top of a 400 foot cliff, especially without throngs of people.
treemos2: Where do you recommend we experience the 200 foot cliffs you mentioned. Do you not recommend the Cliffs of Moher? Thank you
Okay, so far two for two this year. Someone posted the Bayeux Tapestry is closing Sept 1st so will not be open when I'm there and now the Cliffs of Moher trails. I am heading to Ireland in May with my daughter and she was looking forward to this. Will have to look up the "other cliffs" mentioned. I believe I have this saved somewhere in all my bookmarked info.
Thanks for the heads up!
The cliffs at Inishmore were pretty incredible too and we were serenaded by a bagpiper when there! There were suggestions of cliffs on the Slea Head Drive (and beautiful in so many other ways). Climbing to the top of Diamond Hill in Connemara was incredible but lots of work. Ad someone suggested, perhaps look for a little hiking trail out of Doolin or on the south side of the cliffs where landowners will let you park and access the trail from their property.

Where else are you visiting in Ireland. If we know this, we can suggest alternatives to the Cliffs of Moher...
we took a boat tour to see the Cliffs of Moher because I dont like heights. You can see the birds well from the boat.
