Several years ago , we followed the Rick Steves guidebook & went to a very uncrowded place to see cliffs . We were actually the only ones there . Wonderfu!. Does anyone know how to get there?
I’m thinking it was south of Cliffs of Moher. We took a small side road.
Probably the Kerry Cliffs near Portmagee.
It may also have been the Cliff Walk at Kilkee - along the N67 heading south along the coast towards the Tarbert Ferry. It's a very pretty walk and, yes, you'd probably have it all to yourselves. The Diamond Rocks cafe near the parking area at the start of the walk is quite good for a coffee, lunch or a pint.
A bit of local trivia: the actor Richard Harris used to live along the little road heading out to the cafe and was, apparently, an athlete of some renown back in his younger days. There are a couple of little monuments to him - one on the house he used to live in and another along the walk itself.
Kilkee is a cute little place in its own right with several nice little cafes and coffee shops along a pretty stretch of sandy beach - makes for a nice stop along the way to the ferry from Moher.
The best cliff views in Ireland are near the Ceide Fields, but they're well north of Moher in north County Mayo: https://heritageireland.ie/places-to-visit/ceide-fields-neolithic-site-visitor-centre/. The Ceide Fields are a fascinating archaeological site. The photos on the website don't do justice to the amazing cliff views because it's focused on the archaeological site, not the cliff views, but they're amazing.
