CityLink Bus from Galway to Dublin

Hello All,

My wife and I are heading to Ireland and onto the UK in early Oct. We are spending the last few days of our Ireland trip in Galway before planning to take the ferry from Holyhead.

Due to the early-ish Ferry 8:00 am on Sunday Oct 14, I was thinking we want to take the city link bus that leaves at 4:15 am and gets to the Dublin Airport at 6:45 am from there taking a taxi to the Dublin port. Or should I plan to take the 3:15 am and get there at 5:45? They say you need at least an hr at the port if you are picking up your tickets.

Is the bus pretty empty at that time? Should there be plenty of taxis at the Airport at this time?

Thanks

I realize that this doesn’t directly answer your question, but have you considered going to Dublin the night before to eliminate the pressure of leaving so early and from far away?

I don’t think you would have to worry about a bus being full at 3:30 am........

I would also be inclined to stay overnight, but I'm quite risk averse and would also prefer to get a decent sleep before a day of travelling!

If you're open to alternatives you might consider flying. Galway has direct service to most of the major cities in the UK via Ryanair. If your intention is to get to Wales, you can accomplish the same thing by flying Galway-Liverpool, collecting a car there, and exploring at your leisure.
Just a suggestion.

Galway Airport closed a few years ago. Do you mean Shannon?

Thanks for the advice. I might see about heading to Dublin the night before.

Flying was our first option we considered and outside of it being a long day it was reasonably priced.

I see that Ryanair does have those nonstop Shannon-Liverpool flights on either 10/13 or 10/15, for $17 plus fees. Or on 10/14, they have one Shannon-Manchester, for instance. None of these leave too early-morning, which I like.
