CIE tours of Ireland

Anyone have experience with this company? Activity level of their tours. Looking at their 12 day tour Dublin to Dublin .

Yes. I did their Irish Supreme tour last year and it was excellent. Great guide and driver. The itinerary this year is somewhat different from last year. The activity level is moderate. The meals that were part of the tour were also excellent. I would definitely travel with them again. Friends and family have done different tours with them over the years and also had excellent experiences.

I did a tour with them a few years ago. We flew into Dublin but the tour started in Drogheda. We were in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales and then back to Dublin.

The activity level is normal for any tour which requires walking. I'd say it's less intensive than the first RS tour I took, and I did both of them with a foot injury.

While I had a few complaints about the tour guide who led our group as well as the initial transfer we'd arranged through CIE, it was an AMAZING tour. I had fun. We're still in touch with most of the people we met on this tour. Honestly - a great group of people. Second only to a RS tour when it comes to the non grump status.

I would do another CIE tour if they went to a place I wanted to visit in Ireland or the UK. I would not use them for an airport transfer.

So -

CIE is the holding company for Bus Eireann - the public bus system. It's huge, it's professional, and very well run.

I've met lots of drivers over the past few years, and I've never met a bad one. I've joined a few tours from one town to another and I've met and had meals with folks on the tours; and they've all been great (so sad to hear that other poster having a bad experience with a guide!). I'd highly recommend them.
