I would appreciate any reviews of the Christmas markets in or around or between Dublin, Galway, and Waterford. Or any along that route. Our plans are not finalized yet, so I can easily add a stop. Thanks!
I thought that the Christmas markets didn't get going until about the first weekend in December so you need to find the exact dates for your area. In the US we tend to feel that the Christmas season starts the day after Thanksgiving but there is no Thanksgiving trigger date in Europe or the UK.
Christmas markets in Europe are usually tied to the beginning of the Christian church’s liturgical year. Because of that the 4th Sunday before Christmas (Advent) is on 29 November in 2020. This year it’s December 1, 2019.
Quite a few of them start on the 28th and are definitely open on the 1st of December. I am really interested in just opinions of the quality of different markets - I can figure out the opening times and if we can make it this trip.
Thank you Keith! I really appreciate the info and your taking the time to answer. Lovely website, too.
If you want Christmas markets, head to Germany or Austria. Was never a thing here. Some tried (it could be said poorly) to make it a thing but it didn't work out.
