CDW Ins now covered in Ireland?

Just heard that as of July 1, AmEx is including Israel and Ireland in their free CDW coverage for car rentals.

These 2 countries have been excluded in the coverage.....forever, as far as I know.
Had anyone else heard this?

Unless you have it in writing from Amex, I would not take it as 'fact'

Just checked the card member agreement for my Delta Skymiles Amex on the Amex website. It says Ireland and Israel wil be covered as of September 1, 2017. Could be different for different types of cards.

Several credit cards do include coverage in Ireland. Please be sure you understand what that means. Our credit card DOES cover Ireland but we are still considering not relying on the card and purchasing the excess waiver liability. We spoke directly to Dan Dooley (who did not discourage the use of the card for insurance ) and asked how it worked. Basically there is a hold placed on the card and if there is any damage the card is charged.. Dan Dooley (for a fee )will fill out the necessary paperwork for you and you have to get reimbursed from your credit card. I would suggest you speak directly with your credit card company and ask (in detail) what the process involves. It is not a matter of "oops I had an accident and was charged 3,000 euros please give it back to me." There will be paperwork and probably 6 to 8 weeks to get reimbursed. Not trying to discourage you but just think you should know all the details.

AND definitely as someone has already mentioned....you will need a letter in writing from your credit card company to show to whomever you rent from.

I don't know about the American Express, but my MasterCard World Elite added the CDW coverage for Ireland, Israel, and Jamaica this past year. However (and this is why I am replying), once we arrived at our car rental agency (Europcar) to pick up the car, it took a bit of time for me to acquire the confirmation sufficient for the agents to be assured of my coverage. I have since learned that I should have gotten a letter from the bank issuing the card (Barclays)--prior to the trip. It was all sorted out eventually, but it required calls to the U.S. and conversations among various people before it was done. Add to this the complications that can result due to the time difference and traditional banking hours ....

I think it would be prudent to ask the car rental agency exactly what they will need in order to honor the coverage before you arrive. Europcar also placed a $5000.00 hold on my card in order to cover minor damages we might incur.

Wow, they held 5000. on your CC!

I think Dan Dooley, whom we're renting from, holds $1500-2000.
