We are traveling with our daughter, son in law and granddaughters-ages 4 and 2 the beginning of March 2018. The little girls would love to stay one night in a castle. Any suggestions?
You don't give us much information, like where you will be. Ashford castle has made Travel & Leisure's best hotels of the world list. They also have a falconry demonstration that the kids might enjoy. It is located on the western coast of Ireland in Cong.
Ashford Castle, without a doubt. The girls, and you, would likely love meeting their Irish Wolfhounds, too. You can check out photos of the castle and the surroundings on www.tripadvisor or on Ashford's web site. It is expensive, but they run some specials from time to time -- inquire by phone or email, if you don't see any listed on their site.
Dromoland Castle is also lovely, but not as huge and castle-like as Ashford. Their walled garden is stunning.
While age 2 and 4 would be a bit young to participate in the Hawk Walk, if one of you participates, they would likely enjoy watching.
Another vote for Ashford Castle.. They are too young for the hawk walk but there are many other activities they could participate in.
For the different reply....... ;-)
Ballyseede castle in County Kerry is a wonderful, smaller, castle to stay in. Ashford is grand, and is HUGE, and is in wonderful Cong..... But Ballyseede is less touristy and more relaxing a place to stay - as it's just a castle with a few ponies, with less rooms, and more atmosphere (in my opinion). Ashford is a bit over the top for 4 an 2 year olds...... IMHO

I stayed at Killiane Castle in County Wexford this past June and would love to take my granddaughters there...it is also a working farm. it was peaceful, beautiful and you were encouraged to walk the grounds, gardens, see the animals. Not on the scale of Ashford Castle but for a 2 year old and a 4 year old, and a 64 year old... it would be great.
