Has anyone been to Cashel? Is there anything to do there other than the Rock of Cashel?
Cashel isn't a location with tons of things to do other than The Rock of Cashel which is well worth a visit. There are some things we enjoyed. Our favorite was Hore Abbey......Not as visited and we found interesting and haunting.
There is also Athassel Priory ruins (not sure I spelled that right) which are fascinating old ruins of the priory which used to have a village around it. Very quiet and interesting.
There's also a cultural center Bru Boru that has great Irish Dance and music shows.....you can eat there. No clue about their schedule but what we saw was fun.
We also LOVED the pub grub there. Had some of the best soups and chowder we came across. There are also some famous restaurants but we didn't eat in them so I'm not sure of names or how good they are....Just aware they exist.
Also the people there were extraordinarily nice....genuine, funny and welcoming. Know that's not unusual in Ireland but they really stood out.
There are other places with more "stuff" .... but it's well worth a visit. And there is a ton of great things not too far away either. We enjoyed Cashel a lot.
Thank you @ewewoolknit for sharing this information! Even though I'm not the original poster, it's definitely helpful!
Cashel is a small city/town...nice for an overnight. There are a few nice pubs with live music to enjoy in the evening.
We're driving from Dublin to Cashel on our first day with the rental (day 3 of the trip) and spending the night. Thanks for the info!
