Car Seats?

We are planning a family trip to Ireland with our children (6 and 3yrs old) and will be renting a car. Would anyone who has travelled to Ireland with children before suggest bringing your own car seats or renting them from rental agency?

Thanks for any advice!

Im pretty sure that I've read that while they may work, that they weren't legal to use in European cars. Most car rental agencies rent approved seat restraints for children of various sizes and weights.

It’s true that US car seats are not technically legal in Europe (and vice versa). However, I think it’s pretty unlikely anyone would notice. It’s always tricky because checking a car seat risks it being damaged and renting a car seat risks getting an unsuitable seat. I’m not sure there’s a perfect solution.

Are any potential advantages of bringing your own seats worth having to make arrangements to get them onto a plane, to and from Ireland, along with the kids themselves and all your other luggage? Maybe that wouldn’t be cumbersome, and I’ve never dove it, but I envision renting the seats being way more convenient, and possibly worth the rental costs.
