Car Seat Requirements

I will be traveling with my 4 month old and will be using taxis and going on the train from location to location as was wondering what the car seat requirements were. We are hoping to avoid bringing a car seat. Thanks

For the most part, there are no car requirements and I have not seen car seats provided either.

Personally, I would not feel safe NOT having a 4 month old baby in a car seat, even in a taxi, requirement or not.

Taxis are exempt. As are trains. But if you are hiring a car you will require a suitable car seat or suitable restraint as this is the law for children under 3 years in both the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Why on earth would you not bring the carseat!!?? We travelled with three kids.. and we always brought carseats. The one for babies under 20 lb is simple to carry.. can usually be used on the plane ( you ARE getting child a seat!!? And its a handy , safe place to place baby when you shower , eat at hotel and restaurants etc.

I can not relate to endangering a child for any reason.

Car seats on trains are a liability. They do not fit train seats (no seat belts), and are just another piece of luggage to carry. Trains also do not do emergency stops or crash into each other like cars.

Chris.. I can only assume you have never had a small baby ... because the infant carseats are used for far more then just then just train rides.. and as I said .. they are used in taxis and in rental cars. The infant seats do not require a tether bolt either.. just a seat belt.

They are a clean safe place to put a baby down in while you shower.. eat .. etc.. And one can find ones that click into rolling bases.. therefore doubling as a stroller.

Taxi s are exempt for seat belts and car seats for children provided they are in the back seats.

I'm sure that is true, but it doesn't make it safe.
