We have a reservation with Avis for a 1 week trip in Aug 2022, and we have contacted the U.S. staff about restrictions to renting to seniors > 75 yr olds. They say he just needs a Drs letter. But several friends have said that the car rental agencies do NOT rent to >75 yr olds. How can we make sure there isn't a last minute travel disaster when we arrive at the airport, since we're driving the S coast and there aren't great bus connections? Thank you.

I would call or email the rental agency in Ireland. The US staff might just be trained on local policies.
I am interested in this as well. I thought the restriction was over 69.
Here is a link to Autoeurope’s age minimum/maximums for Europe:

Elsewhere I have read that local rental company franchises in Ireland may have their own insurance plans with individual age related policies that can be more or less stringent than the parent rental company. So I second the idea of calling your Ireland pickup location directly.
It might also be worthwhile to see what autoeurope may have to offer you.
Interesting chart. Wow, Finland, 97!
