Does anyone know of a credit card that will cover the insurance on car rental in Ireland? Thanks!!
There are none.
None - and I wouldn't trust it even if it existed.
American Express Platinum covers all car insurance.
It has been my understanding that no cards cover rental insurance as a matter of Irish law, is that not the case, i.e. AMEX cited by Eileen? Just wondering.
That question aside, I suggest paying the CDW down to zero deductible as Ireland is tough on cars. It saved me 1350 euro when someone clipped my door on a narrow road-and kept on going!
Totally agree with all above, Ireland is hard on cars. Would not be comfortable with trusting a credit card to cover any losses in Ireland. Don't know if is a law but I would not want to take a very expensive choice.
I'm pretty sure Chase Sapphire Preferred provides coverage for Ireland.
Yes. The only ones I know of are certain MC and Visa cards. We use our MasterCard World Elite Gold level card. I believe there is a Visa one, as well. We have used it twice and will be using it again in a week. I called my MC company (number on back of card) to verify that it would cover car insurance in Ireland. Then, the rental car company with which we booked asked for written confirmation from our credit card company that they could cover insurance in Ireland, specifically. The company was happy to e-mail me that, which I printed out and will take with us to Ireland. Again, it is only certain MC and Visa cards.
Well, good luck with that. I, too, had written confirmation of my coverage by my Mastercard. I checked repeatedly before my trip, too. In order for the credit card insurance to kick in, you must turn down any coverage at the rental desk. Then if there is a problem and you don't follow every little rule for documentation, etc., or (like my experience) they decline to cover an accident for some bogus reason after the fact, you are on your own. The insurance company knows you won't sue them to cover a $500 accident.
