I am trying to find a car rental company that has locations in both Donegal and Kilkenny that I can use. We are arriving in Belfast on Aug 14 for 2 days, then I was going to take a bus to Letterkenny or preferably Donegal (where my first Airbnb is). We will be traveling until Aug 31, and ending up in Kilkenny before getting on a narrow boat for a week. I can't seem to find any car rental companies that allow pick up and drop off at those locations. I considered renting in Belfast when we first arrive and paying the extra fee to cross the border but even that seems difficult. Any suggestions?

You can certainly do Belfast to Donegal by bus- changing in Derry/Londonderry (or maybe train to Derry then bus)- every two hours.
The Derry to Donegal bus goes all the way to Galway.

I did get an estimate from Enterprise for the 15 days... $2725.00. I was just hoping someone know a cheaper rental company or a different angle to try.

I have rented a car for August picking up in Shannon and dropping in Kilkenny through My Irish Cousin (who works with Enterprise). I found their rate with full insurance, extra driver, and automatic better than directly with Enterprise. I believe Enterprise is the only drop off in Kilkenny but I could be wrong. https://myirishcousin.com/

I have found that picking up a car in Letterkenny is more accessible than Donegal (and the bus goes there as well). So I will try My Irish Cousin and then just book before the prices start going up more.

Where can you rent a narrowboat near Kilkenny? If you taking a bus to Portumna or Banagher, there are other options for dropping off the car. If you're using Barrowline, arranging transport from Kilkenny is about the same as Dublin.

We are using Barrowline, but we are staying in Kilkenny the night that we drop off the car so we will just figure out how to get the Athy when the time comes.
