Hi! Looking for suggestions for a car rental company in Dublin. Our plan is to pick the car up at the airport in Dublin and either drop it off in the Galway area ( train back to Dublin) or drive back to Dublin before leaving. I’d appreciate any thoughts ir suggestions! Thanks!
I had a fine experience with Europcar. People really love AutoEurope.
I haven't used it in Ireland, but I have been very satisfied with Turo in other areas. Generally doesn't allow for a drop-off in a different location, due to the nature of the company.
We rented with Hertz, picked up and dropped off at Dublin Airport. Everything went as expected and I would use them again if needed.
If you are a Costco member you can get one via them at reasonable rates: Enterprise and Alamo.
I have successfully used both Hertz and Sixt from Dublin, but did a round trip each time.
We rented with Europcar via our Capital One credit card and it was a nice experience. In looking at cost, I had planned to pick up in Galway (after taking the bus from Dublin to Galway on the front end of things) and then drop off in Dublin, and the cost made this an unattractive plan. I would recommend just dropping the card back in Dublin if that is where you rent it form, and if that is the destination that you are planning to begin and end in.
I've rented twice from Conn's Ireland which is a Hertz franchise with multiple locations throughout Ireland but alas, not in Galway. They do have offices in Cork, Shannon, Knock and Kerry airport (not not mention Northern Ireland). They also offer all inclusive coverage. I know you can rent from one Dublin location and drop at another without an additional charge but I don't know whether a drop off fee would apply if dropping at Cork, for example. https://connsirelandcarrental.com/
I have not gone on the trip yet, but have booked with My Irish Cousin. They were in line with quotes I received from Auto Europe and others, and were very responsive to my all my inquiries. Their prices include everything, no deductible insurance and second driver which does not have to be a spouse, included.
I found a company called Discover Car.com for a potential rental option. Has anyone had any experience with them?
There is a very long running thread on Trip Advisor about Discovercars.com. They seem to be a third party booking agent and a lot of people have posted problems with their booking.
Can we pick up rental car in Dublin and drop off in Belfast? Can we cross the border with the rental car and because of borders can it be dropped off separate place on island?
For Karen in Puyallup: You'll get more responses to your question if you start a new thread.
That said, yes you can do the one-way rental as you propose, but the one-way international drop charge for doing so will be around USD$250.
Thanks everyone. We did find a very reasonable rate via Enterprise, with a drop off in Galway. Appreciate everyone’s help!
We are in our late 70's and have great driving records. However, we just read that we may not be able to rent a car in Ireland because of age restrictions. Any advice or experiences to give?
Hi! I have only heard about age restrictions but do not have first hand knowledge of it. I would suggest starting a new thread with that topic to get more qualified responses. Good luck!
My suggestion: look into New Way car hire at Dublin airport, terminal 1. I have used them twice in the past couple years, and I appreciated the smooth process of checking out their vehicles, their all-inclusive pricing and choice of automatic vehicles. You can also drive into Northern Ireland, just don’t take their cars onto a ferry. Their website: newway.ie
