Car rental for tall folks?

We are traveling to Dublin in August for my husband's work. We are planning to spend about a week exploring other parts of the country (maybe Dingle or Galway?) before his work starts. My family of four consists of my 6'4" husband, 6'5" son, 5'9" daughter and my 5'7" self. We will have 4 carry-on sized bags plus a day bag/backpack per person. My understanding is that the rental cars are small because the roads are very narrow. In the states we drive an SUV in order to have enough leg room. We cannot all fit in my husband's company car (Ford Escape) because of everyone's long legs. What are our options for rentals? Should we consider another form of transportation? If so, what? Thanks in advance!

Are the roads wide enough to accommodate a van? Without knocking off a mirror or scraping a passing car?

We rented SUV as did my brother and had absolutely no problems whatsoever, even the time the GPS took us through a farmers field. Son is six four and had plenty of room. Plenty of room for luggage.

That's great. I didn't know if SUVs were even available. That will be the best option for us. Thanks!

We rented a van.at the dublin airport.....6 adults, row 2 & 3 were bench seats. Had a lot of room for luggage. We never had any problems w mtg other cars. My 2 issues were i was too short to see thrru the head rests. Sigh. Also, days that it was raining, the floor of the van became slicker than ......anything slick you cant get traction on, even in my shoes w good tread.

We rented a van the last time we went because we had 6 of us and we have several family members that are 6 ft. or taller. We had a lot of luggage. It was really nice to have all the room. It took us about a day to get used to driving on the left side with such a large car but it got real easy and we didn't have any issues with it while we had it. We did have some tight spots in some tiny narrow villages but learned how to get around just fine.
We are going back this summer with just myself and my wife and are looking forward to driving again with a tiny car this time.
Happy travels

We rented a Peugeot 5008 SUV through Auto Europe on our family trip in 2012 and it more then met our needs.
