We are doing a tour of Ireland for about a week. We want to pick up a car in Derry and then drive it to Sligo and return to Dublin via train. Does anyone know if we can split the drop off between these two places? Thanks for your input!

Several years ago we took the train from Belfast to Derry, stayed 2 nights there, then took a bus to Letterkenny where we rented a car. We avoided renting in Northern Ireland and dropping the car off in Republic of Ireland which we were advised could be problematic. The Enterprise office was an easy walk from the bus station in Letterkenny. We dropped the car off in Sligo a week later and took the train to Dublin.

Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are two separate countries, so there may be problems hiring in Derry (Northern Ireland) and dropping off in Dublin... The only way to find out is to try spoof on line rentals and see. Even if you can there may be a hefty one way rental charge.
