Car Rental

We are renting from Hertz out of the Dublin airport. I most often use Autoeurope to book cars, but this time I booked directly from Hertz for better prices. FYI, if you go into Northern Ireland you need the ETA and car companies often charge an additional fee. We are in the Hertz program (can't remember the name) but if you book directly with them, they waive the Northern Ireland fee.

In Galway eight years ago, we rented from Enteroruse, and returned it in Dublin. Good price, and easy pick-up and return.

Three years ago, we started at the Cork airport, and Dollar had the best price. There was more pressure to buy their insurance, but we eventually convinced the clerk at the counter that VISA card provided full coverage, with a physical letter from VISA to prove it. We returned the car at the Shannon Airport that trip. If Dollar has an office in either Dublin or Galway, look at their prices.

One company that we haven’t used, but that sounds like it has very satisfied customers, is My Irish Cousin. They include full insurance coverage as part of their rental package, so not the absolute cheapest company, and appear to be especially geared towards American renters, with supportive customer service. Several people have reported good experiences renting from them on this Travel Forum.

We've used Conn's Ireland twice. It's a Hertz franchise with a US toll free number. They also offer all inclusive coverage so there's no upsell. Each time we rented we picked up in Dublin and returned to the Dublin airport without an additional free. The car also came with a free GPS. https://connsirelandcarrental.com/
