Need info on tour cancellation policy for our trip to Ireland next June.

If it is a Rick Steves Tour, better contact them directly during business hours. This is a forum of interested travelers, and although RS staff do keep an ear to it and occasionally contribute, you need to talk to someone at the tour department.

Cancellation insurance usually applies only in circumstances beyond your control, like injury or illness, not that you just changed your mind.

Following up on Lee's point, it is possible to buy "cancel for any reason" trip insurance, but it is expensive, and you don't get 100% back.

However, be sure to read and understand the fine print of any insurance policy. For example, a colleague wanted to be able to cancel her trip if something happened to her grandson, and assumed she'd need "cancel for any reason" insurance to cover this. It turned out that the policy she was looking at covered cancellation for the illness or injury of family members, and grandchildren were included in the definition of "family members" on this policy.

Here is part of the cancellation policy that is on the website:

"Deposits are fully refundable for 30 days from the date they are received (or until your final payment due date, whichever comes first)."

And this:

"All our tours include Tour Cancellation/ Interruption protection. You can even switch to a different date or destination — with no charge or penalty — up to 60 days before your departure date."

If you have questions, I would definitely call the office on Monday.
