Hi, I am a Canadian travelling Europe this winter. I was previously in Dublin for a short stay of 20 days, then I went to visit my family in Austria. I met some amazing people in Ireland and I would really like to return for Christmas. I am wondering if because I am not a visa required persons, can i re enter Ireland if I haven't ever stayed 90 days total? only stayed a short amount about a month ago, but can I re enter and be granted a 70 day stay? if I come November 1st will I be allowed back in the country? I am worried I am only allowed to enter the country once but I really want to come back and see my new friends. thank you, Maddi.
You don't say when you were last in Ireland and Austria but you're fine if it was over 180 days ago. This question comes up quite often, understandably, and there are several other posts on the same topic. This is a recent one that will probably help: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/another-schengen-question-6548b2f0-47d7-444e-ae12-1112d1a5af79
no see that's the thing- I was only there 30 days ago. BUT. I did not finish my 90 day "permission to stay" I was only there 20 days. so technically I should be granted another 70 should I not? I really am just wondering if they will trouble me at the airport I only want to stay 40 days
Ireland is not in Schengen so the 90 in 180 days does not apply.
When you present yourself at the Irish Border you can be given permission to stay in Ireland for a maximum of 3 months. You may be given less than this.
Just because you went for 20 days shouldn't be any problem - but only the Immigration Officer on the day will decide this.
ahhh okay thank you
Oops, my apologies. I forgot Ireland wasn't in the Schengen Area!
