My wife (U.S. Citizen) and I (dual citizen Ireland/U.S.) would like to spend 180 (6 months) in Ireland. Does anyone have experience with this or knowledge of how this can be facilitated? My research so far shows that on the Irish Embassy website there are two Visa possiblities: C - short term stay (up to 90 days) which I don't believe we would need as we are both U.S. citizens. The D Long Stay visa has some categories (i.e. Family Reunification, Student, etc.) but there is no information for tourist/vacation. Any and all guidance will be appreciated.
Why don’t you ask people at the State Department. You will get the right answer from the right people.
No, you can stay up to 90 days: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/Ireland.html.
US citizens get 90 days without having to apply for a visa beforehand.
To stay longer, you wife would have to apply for a long term visa. The ones you mention are the ones you can get. There is no simple long stay visa just for tourism.
By the way, I wouldn't ask the State Department. I'd ask the nearest Irish consulate for help.
You, of course, can stay there as long as you like since you are a citizen of Ireland. The trick is for your wife. I agree that your best, most accurate source of information in an Irish Consulate..
Thanks for the replies, they have proven to be very useful. Appreciate you taking time to assist.
