Bushmills vs Portrush

We don't have a lot of time in the Antrim area. We are spending two nights very close to Giant's Causeway with a lot we'd like to do.

It is possible we will stop in Portrush for dinner stop on the drive Derry to Giant's Causeway. Otherwise, I'm not sure it makes sense to backtrack the following day to Portrush for dinner. I have a few misc. questions:

  1. I'm assuming its not tragic to skip Portrush. If we happen to stop, any recommendations for a moderate restaurant?
  2. We are staying at Carnside Guest house. They do do a very modestly priced dinner, though it doesn't look particularly exciting. Anyone eat dinner there?
  3. We will be doing the shorter Bushmills distillery tour. Is the town of Bushmills interesting? Should we make time for it? Any recommendations for moderately priced restaurants?

Jules,

We hiked the Antrim Coast just before Covid hit. We had a few days in Ballycastle to start then went through and stayed a night or two in Bushmills, Portrush, and Portstewart. Bushmills was the quieter and quainter town we went through but I wouldn’t declare any of the towns as can’t miss. (Most of our energy and picture taking occurred during our hikes to each town) I don’t have any recommendations for Portrush. However, we very much enjoyed our dinner at The Bushmills Inn. I wouldn't say it was moderately priced exactly, more upper end but easily the best meal we had over the course of our trip.

The restaurant at the Bayview Inn at Port Ballintrae was excellent when I was there. It has been a few years so check recent reviews. The view is amazing as well.
