Hello,
I made the mistake of ignoring my calendar reminder and now the Newgrange/Bru na Boinne tickets are sold out on the day we had allowed for that. Does anyone have experience with showing up and hoping for walk in availability? Or any alternative experiences to enjoy that morning? We are renting a car in Dublin and planning to drive toward the west coast (Mayo) that afternoon.

We went to Bru na Boinne last month. I don't think they add any walk ups. We showed up an hour early hoping for an earlier tour but we're told they could not change our time as they were booked for the day.

If you check their website it does say Pre-Booking Essential. Access is by guided tour only. Ticket availability is limited. All visitors including children/infants must have a ticket.
Have you thought about Trim, with its ruined castle for the morning?

It’s possible you may find a tour from Dublin with tickets for that day.

Newgrange Tours By Mary Gibbons is excellent if they have availability on your day. Bus tour from Dublin.
