Bru Na Boinne/Newgrange and Knowth from Dublin

I will be in Dublin at the end of May and want to visit Bru Na Boinne/Newgrange and Knowth. What is the best way to get there from Dublin? Any suggestions? Is the train inconvenient? We are traveling to Limerick at the end of that day and could take the train from Dublin when we get back or direct from Drogheda. Is it difficult to get to Dragheda train station from Bru Na Boinne visitor center?

Your other post indicates that you'll be staying in Limerick and plan to do day trips from there by car. If that's still the case then you're probably better off just driving to Newgrange from there and visiting the various sites at your own pace rather than trying to do this using public transportation, which would be a bit of a hassle for a family.
If your intention is to spend a night or two in Dublin to facilitate all this then I suggest finding somewhere outside the city (Howth maybe) to avoid having to drive in central Dublin, which I really don't recommend unless you're very comfortable with LH traffic, congested driving conditions, and are quite familiar with the local rules of the road.

I don’t believe there is train service to the Newgrange visitor center. There is a twice/day (excluding Sunday) bus between the visitor center and Dublin and Drogheda. Here’s the visitor center website, http://www.heritageireland.ie/en/midlands-eastcoast/brunaboinnevisitorcentre/

Edit to add that it is bus route 163. Bus Eirann timetable: https://www.buseireann.ie/inner.php?id=406&form-view-timetables-from=&form-view-timetables-to=&form-view-timetables-route=163&form-view-timetables-submit=1

Thank you all! Because we won't have a car while in Dublin, it looks like the bus may be the the way to go if going from Dublin - that would be a bus to Drogheda then a bus from Drogheda to Bru Na Boinne Visitor Center. The other option is to see it another day from Limerick via car, but it looks like it is a good 2.5 hours by car from Limerick. That will be up to my husband who will be doing most of the driving. We sort of decided that 2.5 hours driving per day was the limit which is one reason we are taking the train to Dublin - that and driving in Dublin is crazy. Thank you everyone for the input! When we get back, I will report back and let everyone know what we ended up doing and how it worked out.

I've taken Bus Eireann before and plan to use them again for my upcoming trip in May. Their day tour takes you to Newgrange plus Hill of Tara as well as a look at Trim and Battle of the Boyne. It was well paced and a good value. The driver isn't exactly a guide but he tells you everything you need to know about each place.
