I will be on the 14 day tour of Ireland at the end of August. I am wondering if anyone has done one of the Blasket Island tours on the free day in Dingle?
We didn’t do that on our RS tour in 2019 but last summer we took a Rib boat ride from Dingle out to and around the Blaskets. We saw dolphins, seals and puffins although August maybe too late for you to see the puffins. It was beautiful and fun. There are tours that drop you off to walk around the deserted settlement, we just saw it from the water.
We went to Great Blasket Island on our free day on the 14 day tour of Ireland. We really enjoyed it. Of course whether you go or not is weather dependent. We were lucky and had a glorious sunny day. We packed a picnic lunch for the day. Just remember that you will have to pack out your trash as there are no bins on the island. There are no facilities on the island either so be sure to use the restroom on the boat before going ashore.
Did you prebook the tour?
We did the tour in 2022 and, as I recall, prebooked the Blasket Island tour online the night or two before. We were waiting to see what the weather would be like beforehand. I would recommend talking to your guide about how far in advance to book the tour. Europe is becoming increasingly crowded these days and reserved tickets harder to come by in some places.
We are likely to take Gate 1's Classic Ireland 10 day tour.
