Blarney Castle / Blarney Stone

I have heard mixed reviews of this.... any opinion of spending the time/money going when we have a day in Cork?

I wouldn't, but then I'm not you! What is your gut feeling?

We didn’t find the need to kiss or touch a stone millions of others have also kissed or touched. There are nicer castles elsewhere, so we skipped it.

I enjoyed the castle ruins and the grounds. I did not kiss that stone - felt no need to do that. The gift shop was a really good one though.

Do you have just the one day in Cork? The city itself could warrant the whole day, starting with the English Market, the Crawford Art Gallery, and the Butter Museum. If you like castle remains and/or enormous, fantastic gardens, that’s what the Blarney Castle (and its expansive grounds) offers. The stone is at the very top, after a fascinating climb up stone stairs in a narrow passageway, and you circle the top before descending. You can pass right by it (or give it a glance), or stand in the kissing line, but the less time spent up top means more time exploring the gardens below and their different themes.
