Rick does not recommend this site, but we were there yesterday, no crowds, no lines, and it was beautiful. Perhaps tourism is down??? It was warm and sunny. Mid April

Mid April is still early for many tourists. It may be a different matter in july and August?

I avoided it on all previous trips and only went because my friend insisted. I didn't kiss the stone, but I did enjoy visiting the castle and grounds far more than I could have imagined. Mid-March, gorgeous sunny day. I did think about what it would be like to be on those stairs with a lot of other people on some of the very hot summer days Ireland has had in the past few years. No, thanks.
