Birthday in Dublin

It’s my husbands 65th birthday the day we fly from Scotland to Dublin in September. (Flight arrives at 12:30). Any ideas for something fun to do and/or special place for dinner? A restaurant that could surprise him with a birthday cake? Pub tour? My husband loves beer and makes a point to visit Irish pubs in our travels elsewhere.

We always seem to be traveling on his birthday, but this one is a milestone!

Let me jump in this one too. I will be there with my daughter on the 23rd this month, her 39th birthday. I would like to surprise her as well.

Others here have raved about The Literary Pub Crawl near Trinity College. I think there may be another centered in the Temple Bar area. Haven't done it ourselves but the reviews are excellent - have it bookmarked ourselves for a future visit.
Might be something you'd both enjoy.

After leaving the Kilmainham Gaol, we headed to the Cobblestone pub http://cobblestonepub.ie/ , which has a substantial beer selection, but also had tremendous Trad music. The music’s their real specialty, and we stayed for a long while. I’m not sure they offer much in the way of food, though. Maybe contact them and see if they can arrange for a cake or other ideas for a celebration?
