I am an independent traveler but when I go to Ireland next year we will not be driving, instead using bus, train and an occasional day tour. I read that one can rent bikes to tour Kilarney National Park. I am going to be 72 at that time and not as spry as I ws 25 years ago but still active. How demanding would it be to tour the park by bike? Anyone ever done it? Can we make stops at Muckross house, garden and farms if we are on bikes?
Hi! We were staying near Killarney N.P. This past August and saw lots of people on bikes, so it must be a popular thing to do. I’m not sure where you would rent them, probably in the town of Killarney. There are paths you can ride to Muckross House etc. and it was mostly flat.
Have fun!
We rented bikes just outside the park( almost across from the the Lake Hotel) We got locks so biked to Muckross house and farms and toured while we locked out bikes. Same with Torc waterfall. We took the easy the trails so it was very easy.
We had great fun! I highly recommend
I walked it with my roughly 70 year old mother. There is a broad, flat trail between St. Mary's in Killarney (immediately across the street) and the Muckross house at the lake. We didn't have a plan so didn't see anything else. Afterward we walked back by normal roads because my mom wanted to use a toilet (so I knocked on a stranger's door and they let her use their bathroom). By bike it will be an easy ride if the weather is good.
