Bike Tour Set - What Other Destinations Are Must-See?

Hi Everyone,

I’ve booked a bike tour in late August, flying into Cork and meeting at Killarney. The six-day looped tour itinerary includes many southwestern locations (Ring of Kerry, Kenmare, Gap of Dunloe, Healy Pass, Cara Pass, Whiddy Island). I’d like to fly in a couple days early to acclimate & minimize any consequence of travel delay. It seems logical to stay in Cork — what to do/see there?

After the bike tour, the idea is to rent a car and explore more of the western coast/southern Ireland. What sites are not-to-be missed? I’ve done a bit of research and Aran Islands & Galway keep coming up. Thanks and advance for any response or advice.

Connemara would be a good choice in general. It's one of the most scenic parts of Ireland - our favorite in fact.
If you're avid bikers a day trip, or better yet, an overnight on Inishmore would be right up your alley. Can rent bikes for a tour of the island right at the pier where the ferry docks, and once the day trippers depart in the afternoon you'll have the island virtually all to yourselves.
Rather than Cork consider Kinsale as your first stop. Beautiful little town - crowded during the day but mellow in the evenings. Some nice shoreline walks there too.
