Best Women's Shoes for Ireland

Any recommendations? Would like a black bootie type that is comfortable and also water resistant/proof if possible.

I used a pair of Merrill's water resistant tennis shoes and a pair of clogs from Merrill.

Look at Clark's Wave Walk. I have plantar fasciitis and these have helped me for trips to Spain and Switzerland. My feet, back, hips, etc didn't hurt after a 26 day trip with walking an average of 8 miles a day! They are water-proof. Will never travel with any other shoe!

Two suggestions for Ireland. Be sure you have two pairs of shoes in case one of them gets really soaked (which is a real possibility) and needs a full day to dry out. Also, take an extra pair of socks in your day bag just in case -- doing so saved the day on more than one occasion.

NYC is also a LOT of walking - or I chose to anyway for 10 days. Used Sketchers Go-Walk sorta loafer style with an added Dr. Scholl's liner and it was like wearing house shoes. (68 yr. old - Yikes!)

Merrells are the way to go!!! I bought a pair of waterproof black lace up shoes last year for my trip to Scotland/Ireland. A day walking non stop in Edinburgh in the pouring rain, I can attest that they are waterproof! I had also bought a 'boot' type of shoe =not as comfortable. I am going back next month to Scotland and N Ireland-and my Merrells are going with me! Try Zappos free returns, and free delivery if you use a mobile device.

Keen's Presido or Mora Mid Button. I swear by this brand which I discovered 7-8 years ago. Eliminated debilitating plantar fasciitis. I own 2 pair of their sandals ( I hike in one pair), 2 pair of Presidos and 2 pair of their Voyageur hiking shoes. Yes, I'm a fan. Still have the first pair I bought which was the low cut Voyageur. Lots of miles. Still comfortable.

Keen's have a very wide toe box, which I love and need, both in their sandals and lace up. I wore the lace ups for three weeks straight in Ireland in all kinds of weather and a lot of walking and hiking. One day I even sank up to my ankle in a wet boggy area and they dried quickly no worse for the wear!

I chose to take a pair of Keen's Rose sandals with a closed toe and a pair of breathable lightweight Nikes. Both dry quickly and were light enough to throw in my daypack so I had a change. We got soaked one day and I was able to switch out. Keep in mind that items, especially shoes do not dry out quickly in this 'misty' climate and there is no air conditioning in most hotels to dehumidify. My Keens were dry by the next morning.

I have been breaking in my new walking shoes getting for my upcoming R.S. tour and have discovered that not all socks are created equal. I bought some "cushioned" ones that really do make a big difference. Something to think about...
