Best Way to get to Cliffs of Moher without a car??

Hello fellow travelers! For some reason I am having a hard time finding an answer for this question. I can be flexible from which airport I can begin my travels -either Dublin or Shannon, but my question is how do I get there from either of these airports by public transportation (train) and which is an easier option? Would I be better of hiring a tour group to take me there from say, Dublin ? I suppose my sister and I are are mostly interested in getting true Irish culture, but we won't be staying longer than three full days. Any suggestions are helpful thanks!

If the Cliffs of Moher are your primary objective then flying into Shannon will be the better option.
Trying to put together a multi-day itinerary or a single day trip using public transport will be difficult. Your better option, assuming that you don't want to rent a car, is to find a tour that will take you where you want to go. Here's a link to available tour companies in Limerick (near Shannon airport) from Trip Advisor:

Believe that one of them can likely customize a tour that will answer your specific needs and free you from the worries of having to drive yourself.

thanks for your help. We will be flying into Dublin more than likely and I think if we do make it out there it will be with a day trip tour since we wont be spending a lot of time in Ireland. I'm actually debating Kilkenny now instead because its closer.

OK, you can likewise research Trip Advisor for Dublin-based tour companies for your day trip. TA is handy because it does include customer reviews and links to the various web sites.
Am sure there are others on this forum who may have done the same thing you propose and can offer their suggestions.

Hi Heidi

Theres so many tour-companies now doing day trips to the Cliffs of Moher from Dublin, all are similar standard and none of them can disguise how longggg a day-trip it is. I used to drive/guide these trips from Dublin years ago, thanks be to God those days are over! :)

In saying that, the Cliff of Moher truly are a wonderful sight to behold, you just have to ask yourself is it worth devoting an entire day (most of it on the bus) to see them. Id say possibly, they are a real highlight, just be aware of the time involved.

Kilkenny is a great little city, try and take in Glendalough when you are on the way there. Both can be done in day-trips from Dublin. public transport to Glendalough will be frustrating for you.

Enjoy Dublin and don't miss the Celt pub on Talbot street and the National Museum (free of charge). Also don't let locals tell you to avoid Temple Bar because its "full of tourists", it is, but because it is full of tourists it makes a lot of money and can afford some of the best musicians in the country and is a really fun place to hang out for a wee while.
