Best Route from Kenmare to Dingle- Rally of the Lakes Killarney

Hello-

Going to be visiting Ireland for the first time in late April/ early May. We will be traveling from Kenmare to Dingle on Sunday May 3. We were hoping to drive through Killarney Park but have been advised that there is a road rally that will be there through Sunday. Unfortunately, we will have to exclude this from part of our trip. Not being familiar with how this will impact roads, I was wondering if anyone might have a suggestion on the best way to go. Aside from driving the Ring of Kerry on our way to Dingle, it looks like there is only one main road that goes past the park. Driving the Ring around and up to Dingle would take 4+ hours - not appealing. Was wondering if anyone, had any experience with this or suggestions on the best way to go.

Thank you for your help.

Wow, that is unfortunate. If you can't rearrange your itinerary to avoid the event, ask your innkeeper/host/hotel for detour suggestions. It is possible to cut through the middle of the Kerry Peninsula. I don't know the route per se. We used the ordnance survey maps to do so. It's beautiful but not necessarily time efficient.

I can't find any information about road closures for this year. This is the information from last year.

Contact the Tourist Information Centre in Kenmare and ask their advice - probably worth doing before you arrive and again once you get to Kenmare. They will have all the latest information and advice.
