On September 2 my husband and I will be driving from our hotel in Killarney to Meath, slightly NW of Dublin Airport, to spend a night before we leave Ireland for Amsterdam. [Traveling on miles, so Shannon was not an option.] We will have all day, e.g. 8 or 9 hours, to make the drive and wonder which is the better route to take, the M7 or M8, understanding the M8 converges with the M7 at some point. We have been to the east side of Ireland before, and have been to the Cashel, so probably would not stop again. We are interested in historical sites/ houses/castles, physical beauty and items of interest off the beaten path. We are not interested in shopping and are not foodies. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
