Best Ireland sites with two, maybe three days

My wife and I are planning a trip to Cornwall, England next year. Since we are close, thinking about taking two or three days to visit Ireland on our way home. We are not sure of the time or season either, still working that out. In this short time, what are your opinions of the best sites in Ireland to visit. We will be traveling public transit all the time if possible. Probably fly into Dublin first. Any thoughts/ideas?

There are no “best” sights in Ireland. It just depends what you’re interested in and where you are visiting. Ireland’s wonderful; all of it is good.

I’m returning to Ireland in July. It’s been 33 years since I last visited. I’m lucky that the first day of the Killarney Horse Race meet is the same as my first day in Killarney. I can also go horseback riding. I have two day trips planned with Rabbie’s Tours, to Dingle and Ring of Kerry. My “best” will probably be a trail ride through Killarney Park and Gallarous Oratory.

Then I go to Dublin for a few days to sightsee and visit friends. I suggest you look at RS Ireland guide book or Explore Europe Ireland section on this website. There is a lot of information online. Do you want a brewery tour? See the struggle for Irish Independence? Early Ireland history? It’s all there for you to choose. Don’t know what my “best” will be, but I know it will include my friends and a pub and (separately) 14 Henrietta Street for a tour.

Slainte!

I would go to England first then Ireland flying home from Dublin. That was you clear customs in Ireland and land in US just like it is a domestic flight. In Dublin my favorite is Kilmainhaim Gaol, be sure to get tickets as soon as possible. Then take a day tour to Newgrange. Lots to see in Dublin. The GPO, Christchurch etc. Enjoy. You will need a small amount of Euros.

Thanks for the replies. I'll go through the RS guidebook, plus RS videos on Ireland. We may be thinking a day or two in Dublin and then catch a train up to Belfast for the Titanic thing...may turn into three or four days!
But yes on thinking about flying home from Dublin.

If you only have 2 to 3 days and are flying into Dublin, then spend the time in and around there.

Spend a day hitting the highlights of Dublin.

Another day take a day tour to Newgrange (the Neolithic passage grave to the north of Dublin that is 5000 years old. Mary Gibbons tours are highly recommended but do get booked up quickly.

The third day take another day tour to Powerscourt Gradens and Glendalough, the early Christian site in the Wicklow Mountains. Several different companies do them.
