Best app for train tickets in Ireland?

Hi all,

I'm seeking the best app (if there is such a thing) for seeing the train schedules in Republic of Ireland, and also being able to book tickets. When I was there 2 yrs ago, I got the TFI (Transport for Ireland) app but found it klunky, at best, to use. I just checked but it appears that it has not improved.

I know that I can use the Trainline app to book tickets if I'm willing to pay a slight markup. I prefer though to use a nation's own app if I can for seeing sched + booking tickets. Anyone have any advice?
I don't like to carry the weight of a tablet or laptop so booking off the Irish Rail website is not that practical...Advice, anyone?

Do I need to just play around enough with the TFI app that I get used to it? It's quite possible I've been spoiled by the ease of using the SBB app for Swiss trains....Lol

Thanks in advance for any advice, RS Travelers!

Best,

Disclaimer: I have not used the Irish Rail. So, if someone living in Ireland proves me wrong I’ll announce my defeat beforehand. But, having used trains through a large part of Europe, I know that the best you can do (maybe with the exception of the UK), is find the national railway-company and book at their site / in their app. Applying that here: the national railway company is Irish Rail and they have a site and app where I could just buy a ticket Dublin- Galway for this evening for €16,59,-

Irish Rail is the only option, website not the best unfortunately but it's all we've got.

Thanks Michel and FFS- I did pull up the Irish Rail.ie website on my mobile and it seems to me it has become more mobile-friendly since 2-3 years ago when I last tried it. Thanks! This will work
